My 8 favourite snack foods

There is nothing I like better than a snack….  I am someone who eats regularly throughout the day and needs to have healthy snack options on hand so I don’t binge on junk. But it can be difficult to ensure you are snacking on something healthy and not full of additives and sugar. So here are a few of my favourites that will hopefully give you some snacking inspiration…

1. Greek protein yoghurt

I am in love with this stuff at the moment! Not only does it have 15g of protein per serve, but it has no added sugar and is low in carbs and fats. I have been having this is the morning after I train, or as an afternoon snack, I  mix it with blueberries and strawberries.

2. Bananas

In my opinion there is no better fruit than the banana. They are available all year round, cheap, easy to blend and you can bake with them. They also come in their own protective coating which makes them super moveable and easy to throw into your gym bag for the pre or post workout snack.

3. Boiled eggs

Yes… I was the kid at school with the stinky boiled egg in my lunch box and guess what… I loved it! Hahaha…. They have about 6g of protein per egg and are full of vitamins, minerals and good fats. These days I boil up about 5 at a time, they last for about a week in the fridge and I take 1 to work each day.

4. Superfood energy ball

One of my favourite snacks to have after dinner is a cup of tea and one of my homemade snack balls. They are delicious and full of healthy stuff, chai, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, oats and almonds.

5. Oats

Nothing better than a big bowl of oats, which is why I always have some in my gym bag. Oats are rich in antioxidants and full of good carbs and fibre. These humming bird oats are a great option. They come in several flavours and in single serve sachets, easy to take with you. All you do is add boiling water and enjoy.

6. Berries

Berries are high in both antioxidants and fibre, not to mention delicious. They provide a hint of sweetness to your baking and smoothies, are great with yoghurt and make a delicious snack.

7. Healthy snack bar

Sometimes you just don’t have time to make something, and that’s where the healthy snack bar comes in. These are all decent options and are far better than reaching for that chocolate bar or sweet pastry. When picking one, just be sure to check the ingredients list. The first 3 ingredients listed are the most important as they make up the bulk of the product.

8. Protein shake

This is my go-to snack to have after a workout. Check out my blog post all about choosing the right protein powder.

Hopefully this gave you some options for when your snack cravings hit…
