Every workout should be challenging…

The alarm went off, you have gotten yourself out of bed, the workout gear is on and your ready for your daily dose of exercise… Now its time to work! The last thing you want to do is waste your precious time completing a sub-par, run of the mill workout, that no longer challenges you. Instead you need to make every second of your workout count, so that you maximise your efforts and finish your session feeling pumped.

Here are a few reasons why it’s so important to keep your workouts challenging:

You will see results quicker

Most of us can only workout 3-4 times a week, if we ae lucky, so we need to maximise those sessions to see results faster. If you have a goal you are working towards such as weight lose, strength gain or muscle growth, you will reach your goals quicker if you are pushing yourself in every session.

Keep it interesting

Challenging yourself at every workout keeps you on your toes and gets you excited about being in the gym. I am about to undertake a heavy lifting program (follow me on Instagram to see updates, link on homepage) for about 4 weeks and I am soo excited. Its been a while since I have done this type of program and I am really looking forward to the challenge. By changing up the program and pushing myself I find it re-ignites my passion for exercise.

Healthier Heart

If you want to improve your cardiovascular health, a great way is to get your heart rate up by challenging yourself and pushing past your comfort levels.  Increasing your fitness levels, means an increase in heart health.

Avoid plateaus 

Have you ever started an new exercise program, seen great results and then suddenly your progress just stopped? The body is an amazing thing, in that it is extremely adaptable, it changes to meet the changing demands you put on it. If you start a new exercise program, the body responds by utilising it’s resources, fat, to meet the growing demand for energy. When it has been operating at this level for a period of time, the body becomes accustomed to the new work load and stops changing.  By intensifying your workouts, your body is continuously being asked to respond and change. Hence, it gets stronger, fitter and becomes a better functioning ‘machine.’

Increase self esteem and confidence 

Nothing feels better than setting yourself a challenge and achieving it!  You will soon realise that those milestones you once thought were unachievable are actually in your grasp. Before you know it your self confidence will be sky high and you will be smashing those goals!
